Russian National Committee of the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam

It was founded in 1956 as the Soviet Coordinating Committee of the International Conference for the Properties of Steam. In 1956-1964 it was under the authority of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1964-1992 - within State Committee on Science and Technology, USSR Council of Ministers. Since 1992 the Russian National IAPWS Committee is under the authority of Moscow Power Institute (Technical University).

The purpose of IAPWS is formulation through international cooperation of the standardized tables and equations for the properties of water and steam, heavy water and aqueous solutions as applied primarily to fossil and nuclear utility industry, chemical industry, geophysics etc. In Russia many of the IAPWS materials are approved by the State Committee of Standardized Reference Data as the standardized tables and equations.

The IAPWS releases and guidelines are developed in four working groups:

The activities of the working groups are discussed at annual meetings of the IAPWS Executive Committee. Prepared documents are approved by the EC and considered by national committees of IAPWS member countries. The document is recommended for the use in the IAPWS member countries if approved by all national committees. The results of IAPWS research and organizational activities are discussed at international IAPWS conferences held every five years. Russian specialists have been participating at all annual IAPWS meetings and conferences. Some of them were held in this country (Moscow in 1958, 1970, and 1977; St-Petersburg in 1992). The 10th International IAPWS Conference was held with great success in Moscow in 1984.

To implement some research programs, IAPWS finances visit of young scientists to leading research laboratories worldwide. Seven young scientists have been recommended by the Russian National Committee to participate in collaboration projects.
